Ecogrid
Permeable paving has become big news in the UK over the last few years. We have all seen the effects of the devastating floods that have hit various parts of the country and to this end the government have introduced new planning regulations to lessen the amount of hard standing or non permeable surfaces being laid to our front gardens and beyond. If you intend laying over 5 square metres of a non- permeable surface to the front of your property, you now must apply for planning permission by law. Non permeable surfaces that Ecogrid will replace are as follows :
*Tarmacaddum*Concrete*Patterned concrete*Resin bonded stone*Block paving*Flagstones.
You do not need planning permission to install an Ecogrid driveway.
The legislation surrounding the flood risk measures can be found here (further information). There is also an act : Flood and Water Management Act of 2010 which encourages the use of sustainable drainage and porous paving products for all types of large scale developments and infrastructure projects, with many measures designed to increase the use of SUDS coming into force in 2012 (further information).
Ecogrid Permeable paving surfaces
keep the pollutants in place in the soil or other material underlying the roadway, and allow water seepage to groundwater recharge while preventing the stream erosion problems. Ecogrid porous paving grids capture the heavy metals that fall on them, preventing them from washing downstream and accumulating inadvertently in the environment. In the void spaces, naturally occurring micro-organisms digest car oils, leaving little but carbon dioxide and water; the oil ceases to exist as a pollutant. Rainwater infiltration is usually less than that of an impervious pavement with a separate stormwater management facility somewhere downstream. Another use for the thinner versions of plastic paving grids such as Ecogrid x30 is in catering /kitchen situations to cover areas of the floor where slipping may be a problem such as food preparation areas. Also in engineering situations where oil and or grease splilliage may be a problem.
Advantages of Ecogrid permeable paving
Ecogrid Permeable paving surfaces have been demonstrated as effective in managing runoff from paved surfaces. Large volumes of urban runoff causes serious erosion and siltation in surface water bodies.

Testimonials
Following extensive use of your excellent products in Afghanistan, earlier this year, I would like to use Ecogrid as a driveway/parking in my own self build project. As a Warrant Officer in the Royal Engineers I have used Ecogrid, in vast quantities, across most of Helmand province, and would like to utilise this technology in a residential application. Any additional advice that may help would be well received.
Many thanks,
Paul.
Thank you. We are just laying our first set of paths and are very happy with the ease of installment even on a curved path.
