Frequently asked questions...let Eco Jim help

I have a driveway that slopes, can I lay the grid?

Absolutely. Ecogrid is unique in the fact that it has the worlds only patented locking system. Each piece is firmly locked on two sides to the next creating a highly secure surface.

If you are still worried about laying on a slope then Jim says lay on a 45 degree angle to the slope. The Ecogrid is easy to cut and a 'fancy' pattern looks great anyway!

Wont the gravel in the grid run down the slope?

Absolutely not, the actual grids within the main grid are a little over 50mm square within a single grid of 330mm square, the gravel is locked in to the squares.

Do I need planning permission for this surface?

No, that is the great thing about Ecogrid, it is positively encouraged by the planning departments as it has a positive environmental impact, reversing decades of paving over driveways with unsightly concrete, block paving, tarmac and resin bonded surfaces.

Look at the planning regulations from the government here

Jim says.....Note that if you are laying over 5 square metres of the surfaces as below.

YOU DO NEED PLANNING PERMISSION.

and could be asked for it retrospectivly if you lay these surfaces and this is extreemly expensive....be warned! This applies to drive extensions also

Tarmacaddum

Patterned imprinted concrete

Resin bonded stone surfaces

Block paving

How are the surfaces prepared?

Jim says he isnt answering that one again! details can be found on our how to page, link here!!

Can I turf or lay seed in the grid to create a 'lawn' that I can park on?

Yes, yes. and wow what a fantastic concept, imagine going out to 'mow' the driveway!!. Totally porous, aesthetic and environmentally friendly.

What thickness is standard for a shed base?

Jim says....Mmmm well if you are going to dig out the turf first, then I think the 30mm will do just fine, however to be on the safe side, I would lay the S50. A thicker tile which will better be placed to keep damp at bay.

I don't know what the numbers refer to.

Ah good one! Ask a question and you may be a fool for 5 minutes, dont ask and you will be a fool forever! Says Eco-grasshopper-Jim! Anyway, E50 is the strongest tile with a load capability of 350 tonnes and 50 is the depth of the tile, S50 is still 50mm deep but has a load of 120 tonnes (fine for most situations), E40 is 40mm and still 120 tonnes load, EL30 is 30mm and again 120 tonnes .

• Are discounts available?

Put simply: no, the price list reflects the various amounts of discounts available directly pertaining to the contract value. We will not deviate from these rates. We consider that this is a good thing as we also will not give your competitor a better discount including Tescos, B&Q etc!

• Is there any Point of sale available?

Generally brochures which can be given in digital form so that you can print them off with your own company details. Counter stands for Ecogrid are available with purchases.

• What about area exclusivity?

A difficult one considering the way we are able to market products nowadays. If you look to stock a product range then we are open to discuss potential area exclusivity. However maintained purchase levels would need to be achieved.

• Do you do installations?

No but we do have classroom facilities where we teach sustainable building practices, individuals and companies that have been correctly instructed are added to an approved contractor list which we offer on an area specific basis.
